There are a number of small waterfalls in western Ohio, but Ludlow Falls isn’t one of them. With a height of about 15 feet and a crest of 60 feet, Ludlow Waterfall differentiates itself from the likes of West Milton Cascades and Greenville Waterfall.
Its location is also quite interesting — under a bridge! The waterfall on Ludlow Creek runs underneath US Route 55/48. If you are driving over the bridge, you will never realize that there is a waterfall down under.
A few meters of walk from the parking lot, and the sight looks like this:
“It is beautiful”, I said to myself when I saw it.
Further ahead is a path that winds down a rocky slope towards the creek for a good view of the waterfall. If you have kids, be careful in going down, as some of the rocks are slippery.
Although there was a warning sign of “No Swimming” posted near the parking lot, some visitors took some dips and even showed some stunts by jumped off the cliff unto the water below!
I highly recommend checking it out.
Where it is located
If you are using Google Map for driving directions, expect to be brought somewhere else (the X on the image). To never miss the waterfall, while on Covington Ave, slow down and then slightly turn left to a dirt road (as shown in the arrows). You should be parking where the check mark is. Then walk a short distance, downhill, towards the waterfall (where the red circle is).
Instead of using the Google Map direction, I suggest that you follow these exact coordinates for the parking lot: 39°59’55.1″N 84°20’17.1″W
What is the best time to visit
I was at the falls on a Sunday afternoon, and there were only few visitors. I recommend going there in mid-afternoon, during Spring season when there will be more water on the falls.
