The Indian Panipuri is a popular snack that one could easily find on the streets of India. It is a deep-fried crisp crepe that is prepared hollow for veggie fillings. Fillings could contain potatoes, onions, chickpeas, chili, and a sour liquid from tamarind and flavored water known as “pani.”
To eat panipuri, you take one of the hollow balls, make a small hole in it, and fill it with the spiced mixture. You then dip it into the flavored water and eat it in one bite. The combination of crispy texture, spicy flavor, and tangy tamarind chutney makes panipuri a beloved snack in India.
There are many variations of panipuri across India, with different regions adding their own unique twist to the dish. Some popular variations include dahi puri, which is made with yogurt and tamarind chutney, and golgappa, which is a similar dish made with a slightly thicker shell.
I had the chance to try my first panipuri when I visited India.
