No, there is no free money at the museum! The title meant that the Money Museum inside the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago is free for everyone.

This is the first museum of its kind that I have visited. With most places and attractions in Chicago requiring you to pay expensive entrance fees, the Money Museum is a kind-of relief. Being free, anyone could enjoy this small museum in the heart of the big city.

There isn’t any sign from outside that says “Money Museum.” So, if you are following a map app on your mobile and it says that you have arrived but could not see the museum, don’t worry. The building in front of you is the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. Find the entrance to the bank and go inside. Once inside, there are police officers who would point you to the entrance of the museum. Security is tight. So, if you have a bag with you, that will be inspected. Also, bring your I.D.

This is a very informative and interactive museum that explains money flow and policy and shows the history of the U.S. dollars. There is a section that focuses on facts about the work of the Federal Reserve Bank. Also, you get to identify fake versus real dollar notes.

The interesting part? There is a rotating cube that contains a million dollars with only $1 bills.

How long will it take to see the entire museum? You may need at least 1 hour.

This museum is for all ages — yes, even for kids. Definitely a must see when you are visiting Chicago.

Note: Do not forget to get a souvenir inside the museum — a free bag of shredded bills!
