Kentucky’s Newport Aquarium is not for everyone. Not for me. A long queue at the ticket gate was already a sign that entering the aquarium could be crowded and not pleasant.
Unlike other aquariums where you’d be met with big open spaces, the Newport Aquarium was the complete opposite. The moment I entered, a long line of visitors clogged the narrow one-way walk-through exhibits. The one direction loop prevented me from being able to enjoy each pace. No freedom of movement! Going back to displays I missed meant going through an incoming crowd and countless baby strollers!
If you have been to bigger aquariums, I suggest that you skip your visit to Newport Aquarium.
One of the attractions was the shark bridge. But honestly, this bridge was nothing but a rope bridge that crosses a shark tank. The people simple walked through the bridge (and there was no sign of shark!). If there was a shark, I would not see it or enjoy the experience because the design of the rope bridge wouldn’t allow me to do so. Also, I could not just stop in the middle of the bridge, peek through the holes and wait for sharks, and let a tight line of people behind me wait.
This is an expensive aquarium with admission ticket prices not worth paying! I love visiting aquariums but I won’t recommend this one. However, if you haven’t seen many aquariums in your lifetime, the Newport Aquarium is for you. Otherwise, don’t bother and find another activity somewhere.
