I have never known anything about the Great 1913 Dayton Flooding until I visited the exhibit inside the Carillon Historical Park.

On the morning of March 25, 1913, the citizens of Dayton, Ohio were awaken by the sounds of factory whistles blowing and church bells ringing amid the heavy rains. It was a warning that the Great Miami River was on the verge of breaching the levees.

Four trillion gallons of water overwhelmed the city, reaching a height of 18.2 feet. The Great Flood claimed over 350 lives, destroyed over 14,000 homes and caused over $100 million in damage.

The Great 1913 Flood changed Dayton and the Miami Valley forever.
