The first “no-knock” tetraethyl lead gasoline was sold at the Refiner’s Oil Station at the corner of Sixth and Main Streets in Dayton. Ethyl was developed by Thomas Midgley who worked under the direction of Charles Kettering.

Fun historical fact:

1. In 1924, service station attendants pumped the gasoline, which cost on average 20 cents a gallon, checked the oil, added air to the tires, and washed the windshield of a customer’s car.
