Unless you are into public programs and special events, which the San Diego History Center hosts once in a while, there is really nothing special about this museum. It is a good thing, however, that the center is free because it would be a complete waste of money to let visitors pay just to see old photographs and documents of old San Diego.
The San Diego History Center is one of the non-appealing spots in the city, apart from the San Diego Museum of Man. Everything is displayed in one room. Zigzagging my way through wall dividers, I was done in 15 minutes.

If you really want to visit the Center, it is located in the Casa de Balboa, at the east end of El Prado, near the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center, the San Diego Natural History Museum and the Bea Evenson Fountain.
Here’s a video and a proof that there were only 5 of us in the museum during a busy Saturday at Balboa Park.
