A visit in Santa Fe, New Mexico will not be complete without spending time at the downtown Santa Fe Plaza. Surrounded by art galleries, museums, restaurants, and historic attractions, the downtown plaza is the heart of Santa Fe. With an atmosphere so laid-back, people sat on benches that are abundant on the plaza — most of them having some good chat times with friends, while others are eating carnitas.
The plaza is the best one I’ve seen in New Mexico, so far!
Here are few more things about the downtown Santa Fe Plaza.
1. Hundreds of pigeons gather on the center structure.
2. Interesting stuff are sold in booths around the plaza.
3. Restaurants are easy to find.
4. Art galleries on the sidewalks.
5. Some streets are closed to traffic.
6. More seats for some coffee time.
7. Tired of walking? Take the shuttle bus.
8. Sometimes, music bands entertain you at the plaza.
9. The tasty and famous Santa Fe carnitas.
10. Summer is the best time to visit the plaza.
The downtown plaza is the best place to while away a part of your day in Santa Fe. After enjoying the plaza, visit the museums and the tourist attractions that are all just walking distances. Here are four of them:
1. The Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi
2. The Miraculous Stairs Inside Loretto Chapel
3. Oldest Church in the U.S. is the San Miguel Church in Santa Fe
4. New Mexico History Museum Merges With Palace of the Governors
