The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris, aka, Sacre-Coeur, is situated atop the highest point in Paris, France. Built in the late 1800s, the Basilica is among the largest in the world. It was designed by architect Paul Abadie and was completed in 1914.
The basilica’s distinctive white dome is visible from many parts of the city and is a popular landmark for tourists. The church is known for its stunning interior, which features mosaics, stained glass windows, and a large, intricate organ.
The 300+ steps to the top of the dome, which is open to all visitors, is all worth-it. From atop the Basilica, you see the spectacular panoramic view of the city of Paris and the Seine River. The church also houses a crypt, where visitors can see relics and learn about the history of the basilica.
This is definitely a great stop when visiting Paris. Recommended length of visit is between 1 to 2 hours. To avoid the crowd, try to visit early in the day.
By the way, the use of cameras and video recorders is forbidden inside the Basilica.
