Welcome to one of the World’s New 7 Wonders Cities: Vigan City!
Vigan is the capital of the province of Ilocos Sur in the Philippines. Recently listed as one of the World’s New 7 Wonders Cities, Vigan joined other known cities worldwide, namely, Beirut in Lebanon, Doha in Qatar, Durban in South Africa, Havana in Cuba, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, and La Paz in Bolivia that “best represent the achievements and aspirations of our global urban civilization.”
I’m very fortunate to have visited this part of the country. So let me show you what it offers and why, indeed, it is a wonder city, and why it is considered as a planned Spanish colonial town in Asia.
Welcome to Calle Crisologo.
It is a major attraction of Vigan because of the Spanish houses where the rich people lived during the Spanish era.
Taking you to the Baluarte.
Baluarte is owned by Chavit Singson, a well-loved Filipino politician in Vigan and is famous by accompanying Manny Pacquiao in all of this fights. :) Baluarte is a wildlife sanctuary to cater awareness in preserving the wildlife and endangered species.
The Famous Gold Tower of Baluarte.
The ground and it’s animal species.
Shape your own.
Learn some pottery in Vigan.
Spanish architecture.
Snapshots of the Heritage Houses in Vigan. Syquia Mansion, Crisologo Mansion and Juan Luna’s Heritage House. These embodies the influence of Spain to the Philippine architectural styles. To have seen these heritages broaden my perspective and historical empathy of my country.
Indulge in food.
When someone goes to a new city, he should never miss trying out the most loved food in town. One of the favorites is the Longganisa Pizza at Cafe Leona, located just right at Calle Crisologo.
Kusina Felicitas.
Dining at Kusina Felicitas is also one of the best must-do food trips.
Bantay Church
Capping it all up is a church visit. It’s a Filipino tradition to pay a visit to a Church whenever you are in a new place.
That is Vigan.
That is Northern Philippines!
