The old seaport section of Alexandria, the Old Town Alexandria, is a great place to visit with a free trolley on King Street that would get you around the area. But I would suggest you walk on its cobblestone streets and enjoy the historic buildings that abound.
According to history, Alexandria’s riverfront was an important colonial port during the colonial, revolutionary and Civil War periods, dating back to 1749.
The Potomac river is beautiful, so enjoy the walk. If you happen to be there at sunset, you will love the place even more.
There are a variety of guided tours available including cruises on the Potomac River, horse drawn carriage rides, ghost tours, and historic walking tours.
