Who would have thought there is a South Dakota Air and Space Museum somewhere hidden in Rapid City? The first time I’ve heard about it was when my housemate said that we would be stopping by to check it out when we were on our way to Wyoming.
The address was easy to locate. Just less than half a mile north of I-90, the museum is home to the powerful Black Bird.
It contains an interesting selection of aircraft, armaments, and memorabilia.
About 30 post-WW2 aircrafts displayed outside.
See the B1B Lancer.
This B52 appeared during the War in Vietnam, circa, 1968.
The massive B-29 Superfortress.
The C-45 Expeditor.
The EC-135 Stratotanker.
The Minuteman II Missile.
And there are more inside…
H-13 Helicopter.
A Bomber simulator.
If you decide to get the 50-minute guided bus tour, you will see more of the Ellsworth Air Force Base. Cost is $8.00 for adults.
You will see the training missile silo.
If you are traveling to Rapid, City, this is definitely worth a stop.
This museum is located next to Ellsworth AFB and admission is free but donations are accepted.
