The Cologne Cathedral aka Dom is the landmark of Cologne, Germany. Towering approximately 157 m (515 ft), it is considered the largest Gothic church in Northern Europe and its spires are known to be largest facade of any church in the world.  The cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most popular tourist attractions in Germany, drawing millions of visitors each year.

Construction of the cathedral began in 1248 and took over 600 years to complete, with the final touches being added in the late 19th century. The cathedral features a striking façade adorned with intricate carvings and statues, and is home to an impressive collection of stained glass windows, including the famous “Window of the Three Kings.”

The interior of the cathedral is equally impressive, with vaulted ceilings, ornate carvings, and a stunning altar featuring the shrine of the Three Wise Men. Visitors can climb to the top of the cathedral’s tower for breathtaking views of the city and the Rhine River.

Right in the middle of the city, you cannot just visit Cologne without seeing the Dom. Just step out of the Cologne main train station, Hauptbahnhoff, and you’d see this astounding Gothic structure that dominates the city landscape.

Since it is easily accessible by public transport, hundreds of people visits the Cathedral every day.

You can also climb to the top of the towers with a small fee. I recommended that you pay for a guided tour if you want to know more about it.
